I have always thought empathy to be the most important human emotion. It trumps the ups and downs of love, breaks through hate, discord, any and every emotion. Empathy puts you in concert with what someone else is going through and experiencing. It allows us to elevate ourselves to the golden rule —
“Do onto others as you would have them do onto you.”
Feeling for another being and attempting to see things through their eyes lends itself to allowing a perspective we may not have considered prior. Heightened empathy brings us together and affords commonality as an enlightened population paving the way for us to become the best version of humanity possible.
Okay, that being said, there is also that which I consider to be the most dangerous of thought processes — righteousness; and even worse, group-think righteousness. As Dr. Phil would say:
“Are you a right-fighter?”
Everyone has an opinion, which I applaud from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. Independent thinking is extremely important. Absorb information, empathize with the people or situations as a whole, throw in some common sense, and determine how something affects you good, bad, or indifferent. Original thought and thinking are the greatest gift of the universe.
I am continually taken aback by people with uneducated or misrepresented data from which they derive their decisions and/or perspectives. That person said this, that other person said that, I’m indignant that this is happening or I’m sure I’m completely right and those opposing are completely wrong. Whether, religion, politics, education, sports, the forum of public opinion, whatever it is. People all over the world take something and run with it with the passion of a gazelle running from a hungry lion. It is perhaps the most rigid of thought processes known to mankind. Get out of your way people, open up, and come to the realization that there are many ways to look at something, approach a situation, open yourselves to other brilliances within the realm of existence. Rooting yourself in righteousness and indignation is the most dangerous and destructive malady of the human race. Become a light in the darkness of rigidity… Sandy
